Axel Kahn, ambassador for the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™ 2014 in Normandy :
Axel Kahn is a Doctor of Medicine and a Doctor of Science. His work mainly involves gene regulation, genetic diseases, cancer and nutrition, and he has been director of research at the INSERM (French Institute of Health and Medical Research) and director of the Cochin Institute. He was also President of Paris Descartes University from 2007 to 2011, as well as chairman of the Research Committee for the University Presidents’ Conference.
Axel Kahn is a Knight or the French Order of Arts and Letters, Officer of the Legion of Honour and the Order of Agricultural Merit, and Commander of the Order of National Merit.
More than 500 of his articles have been published in well-known international scientific journals such Nature, Cell, Nature Genetics, Pr.Natl.Acad.Sci of USA, and many more.
Axel Kahn began horse riding at an early age, and since 1968 has been a consistent owner-rider. From 1992 to 1995, he and his wife even owned an equestrian centre.
As a biologist and someone highly involved in the field of ethics, Axel Kahn has spoken to the media on several occasions about horse-related subjects. Most notably, he spoke about the use of new technologies derived from genetics and reproductive biology on equines, in particular reproductive cloning.
