The first phase of the Territorial Project is launched

On behalf of the financial backers involved in the territorial project for the AlltechTM FEI World Equestrian Games 2014 in Normandy, Laurent Beauvais, Chairman of the Lower Normandy Region and Chairman of the Normandy 2014 Organising Committee, presented the “L’Elan des Jeux” territorial project on Friday 5th July at the Abbaye-aux-Dames in Caen, drawing particular attention to the launch of the “15 months” phase of the project.

The first phase of the Territorial Project is launched

The “15 months” phase of the territorial project: Normandy gets “Games Fever”!

No fewer than 500,000 visitors, 1,000 riders and their horses, 1,200 journalists and 500 million television viewers are expected in Normandy between 23rd August and 7th September 2014. In order to make this international event a resounding popular and sporting success whilst also ensuring the Games offer local economic help in terms of tourism and social initiatives, the public stakeholders have devised a strategy for territorial development with three distinct phases: 15 months of mobilisation in the run-up to the event; 15 days of festivities; and a 15-year legacy after the Games. This project aims to promote Norman excellence on an international scale, to develop the region’s economic activity, and to popularise the Games and equestrianism as a whole.

In order to achieve these three aims, a few months ago the region’s public stakeholders, under the presidency of Jean-Karl Deschamps (1st vice-chairman of the Region), issued a call for initiatives suitable for the “15 months” phase of the project. This call for initiatives was open to all backers of sporting, cultural, educational, economic, touristic, social or sustainable-development projects.

In total, over 200 approved projects were submitted between February and May 2013, and the first of these will take place in July 2013. The high number of approved projects – which include competitions, horse treks, shows, demonstrations, exhibitions, introductions to horse-related professions, social initiatives, and much more – proves how committed and enthusiastic both the general public and professionals are about the Games.

The Normandy 2014 Organising Committee shows its commitment in the “15 months” phase of “L’Elan des Jeux”!

The territorial project’s aims are also an integral part of the Normandy 2014 Organising Committee’s itinerary. The Committee is involved in numerous internal initiatives, and co-finances various external projects in the fields of sustainable development and innovation.

Numerous projects – an event exhibition, “Around the world in 80 horses”, the creation of a corporate club, affordable ticket pricing, a working horses’ village, accommodation packages available through the ticketing website in collaboration with Normandy’s tourist offices, the involvement of the region’s stakeholders in the volunteer programme, etc. – all underline the Organising Committee’s direct involvement in the “L’Elan des Jeux” territorial project. Other initiatives led by the Organising Committee feature in the “15 days” and “15 years” phases.

The Organising Committee has also contributed by helping to finance the call for initiatives for the “L’Elan des Jeux” territorial project. By creating a “Sustainable development and innovations fund”, which receives financing from private partners (5% of sponsorship revenue), the Organising Committee for the AlltechTMFEI World Equestrian Games 2014 in Normandy is able to carry out or finance initiatives that promote sustainable development and innovations. The Organising Committee has invested 300,000 Euros in “L’Elan des Jeux” projects, in addition to the 300,000 Euros invested in internal initiatives. More than 20 projects from the call for initiatives have been selected and financed by the Committee, including a project to showcase the La Prairie-Vallée de l’Orne site, the French Equestrian Championship for people with special needs, and school trips to stud farms.

Finally, 10,000 tickets for official Games competitions will be given to those involved in the “L’Elan des Jeux” territorial project. More than 3,000 of these will go to the leaders of projects from the “15 months” call for initiatives.
