JUMPING : Marcus Ehning clinches second Saut Hermès victory!

Article

Having already triumphed in the inaugural edition of the Saut Hermès in 2010, Ehning repeated the feat yesterday afternoon, rounding off the class with a masterful clear round and beating the only other double clear, Frenchman Patrice Delaveau on Lacrimoso HDC, by just 0.03 seconds.

THE GRAND PRIX IN BRIEF

Last weekend in the French capital, some of the world’s best show jumpers took part in the fifth edition of the CSI 5* organised by Hermès. Out of the thirty-seven pairs that performed under the ornate glass roof of the Grand Palais, only four jumped clear in the first round: France’s Patrice Delaveau (Lacrimoso HDC), Ukraine’s Katarina Offel (Lacontino), Germany’s Marcus Ehning (Cornado) and Britain’s Laura Renwick (Bintang II). Ehning, the last competitor to take to the arena, once again showcased his mastery of the art of trajectory, shaving a few hundredths of a second off the time recorded by the Norman rider, who also went clear in the jump-off.

THE FRENCH RIDERS’ RESULTS

After four faults on the rustic oxer at number five, Caroline Nicolas on Mozart de Beny, who were competing in their second CSI 5*, also came unstuck at the triple. Nevertheless, they proved that they belong at this level of competition. The other French riders emerged with lighter scores of just four faults. Simon Delestre (Qlassic Bois Margot) and Mathieu Billot (U2) knocked down the same tricky upright, jumped on the bend. Julien Epaillard (Cristallo A*LM) and Philippe Rozier (Rahotep de Toscane) also put in a good performance despite incurring four faults at number six.  Kevin Staut (Reveur de Hurtebise*HDC) had high expectations to live up to, and jumped a good round before collecting four faults at the last oxer. Nevertheless, his fast time earned him sixth place. Unfortunately, the talented Pénélope Leprevost (Nayana) seemed to suffer from an “off day” and finished with a total of twelve faults.
