INTERVIEW : 3 questions for Daniel Deusser
This weekend, Germany proved that it is a force to be reckoned with, boasting three riders in the top 5 of the World Cup Final. A result that bodes well for the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™ 2014 in Normandy…
Absolutely. Germany performed very well here, with relatively young horses such as Cornado, Cornet and Chiara. Christian Ahlmann also has some good horses. I hope that it will last, that all of the horses stay in good health so that we can put forward another formidable team in Normandy.
What do you have planned between now and the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™ 2014 in Normandy?
I am going to try and qualify with Cornet d’Amour. First, I will give him five weeks off from competition. Then I will enter him in some intermediate classes to gradually get him back into the swing of the top level. We will no doubt compete in some Nations Cup events with the German team, which still has to qualify for the final of the series.
If you qualify for the change-horse final at the Games, which horses would you like to ride?
At a competition of this level, there are a lot of very good horses that one would like to ride at least once. But it can sometimes be disconcerting when your opponent does better than you on your own horse (laughs)! Take the World Cup, for example: I would have liked to ride nearly all of the horses present in the final. Of course, there is Cornado NRW. He looks laid-back, but I think that in reality he is not that easy to ride. Marcus is an excellent rider. It would be really thrilling, but the first thing to think about is how to qualify for the change-horse final (laughs).
