Nicolas BATUM

“I’m proud to be part of such an event in Caen. I’m very attached to my Norman roots and it is with great pride that I accept the offer to be an ambassador for the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™ 2014 in Normandy. The Games are sure to be an absolute success and a magnificent event, held here in our region of Normandy, the region of horses.”

Biography

Nicolas Batum is one of Europe’s best basketball players. He has played for the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers since 2008 and is an exceptional player on the French national team, which won the 2013 European Championships. Before becoming one of the top small forwards in the world, this Lisieux native cut his teeth in Normandy, taking to the courts in Pont L’Evêque at just age five. He later joined the Caen Basket Calvados club, in which he has invested since 2013 to help support high-level basketball in Caen. While he may be far away, Nicolas remains quite attached to his home region and comes back as often as his busy schedule allows. His talent and values make him a role model for many budding athletes. In June 2014, the city of Malaunay (near Rouen) named a gymnasium after him, a rare honour for a non-retired athlete. This statuesque 2.03m ambassador will undoubtedly elevate this event to lofty proportions!
