16 - 25 AUGUST 2013: DRIVING, ENDURANCE & EVENTING TEST EVENTS
As the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™ 2014 in Normandy project gains momentum, the Organising Committee tested various aspects of its organisation during preparatory events in August 2013. These events, which featured in the national and international calendar, though at a lower level than the main event in 2014, took place in some of the official 2014 Games venues.
- Endurance CEI** in Sartilly on August 16th 2013
- Eventing CCI** in Le Pin National Stud and Caen from August 16th to August 18th 2013
- Driving CAI-A4 in Caen from August 23rd to August 25th 2013
HIGHLIGHTS - 2013 TEST EVENTS (ENDURANCE, EVENTING & DRIVING)
ENDURANCE CEI** IN SARTILLY : 16 August 2013
The 60 competitors left from Sartilly at 6.30am, and covered a total distance of 129 kilometers with 4 loops. Cheikh Hamdan ended up winning this very technical course: “It was a beautiful event. The course was made for experienced riders with a real strategy. This is what we need for next year”. Next year, the competition will be the equivalent of a 3* level competition, over a distance of 160 kilometers.

EVENTING CCI** IN LE PIN NATIONAL STUD & CAEN : 16-18 August 2013
This competition was organised in a similar way to next year’s event, since the Dressage and Cross country phases took place at Le Pin National Stud (Orne)
and the Jumping was held in Caen (Calvados) (the only difference being that the jumping will be held in the SHUC instead of the Ornano Stadium).
The 50 competitors therefore had the opportunity to ride part of the Le Pin National Stud’s brand new cross country course, which was inaugurated in July 2013. Italian rider Vittoria Panizzon won the competition on Merlots Magic : “I’m really delighted. I had never been to Le Pin National Stud before and I really liked the setting as well as the course. I’m sure that the Games will be watched by many people next year. And if we can benefit from the same support and the same atmosphere as last year at the London Olympics, it will be fantastic”.

DRIVING CAI-A4 IN CAEN: 23-25 August 2013
The 20 drivers and 100 horses present tried out the new dirt surface, which was tested in June and is more resistant than grass, regardless of the atmospheric conditions. World number 1 Chester Weber won the competition, and said this footing could become the future of Driving: “I was really impressed by the competition venue. There is nothing better than bringing sport to the people, so I’m really happy that the event took place here, in the centre of Caen. I was very impressed with the surface too. You can tell that the organisers have worked really hard on it”.
